ABOUT US

Hello! My name is Nikki and I'm a freelance artist based in Wichita, KS. I'm originally from coastal Virginia, where I was fortunate enough to attend public schools that instilled a deep love and appreciation of the arts in me.

Growing up, the only visual art training I received was through school classes. I primarily focused my creativity on music and dance during those years.

After high school I briefly attended VCUarts. I studied violin and pursued a degree in music education. After a couple of years though, I realized that music was not where my passion was and left VCUarts to pursue a career in veterinary medicine.

I then moved to Florida and continued my career in emergency veterinary medicine. In 2019, art was the furthest thing from my mind. Not only was I in an abusive relationship, but I was also diagnosed with Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS). Eventually, in 2022, I found the strength to leave my home situation and moved home to Virginia.

This was not an easy transition for me. I had just spent several years with someone who was constantly bringing me down and dragging my passions. In addition, I was living entirely on my own for the first time and learning to manage an autonomic disorder that was slowly eating away at my spirit.

During my time back in Virginia I began using alcohol to cope. I was missing my friends and everything I had built over my previous years in Florida. I broke "no contact" several times. I was struggling.

I moved back to Florida in 2023 to get my life in order. I packed up, and moved into a small townhome with two of my dearest friends. During this time, my health was still minimally managed and I was beginning to struggle to keep up with the physical demands that go along with working in veterinary medicine. My friends encouraged me to begin drawing again, which eventually led to me pursuing and accepting a tattoo apprenticeship.

I studied all different styles of art during this time - American traditional, neo-traditional, realism, fine line. You name it, I was studying it. By the time my lease was up, however, I was missing my family and Virginia. I left my apprenticeship and moved home again in 2024.

A few month after I moved back to Virginia for the second time, I received a message from an almost decade old friend in Kansas. We had matched on a dating app when I was in college, but I had a rule about dating active-duty military (if you grew up in a military heavy area, then you know). He told me he had retired and that he had held feelings for me all those years. I then moved to Kansas so that him and I could pursue a relationship together.

A few months into our relationship, my health took a turn for the worst. I began to experience pre-syncope episodes almost daily. At my boyfriend's recommendation, I took a leave of absence to focus on my health. During this time I began to focus more on graphic design, and thus Jade Bunny Design was born!

I'm open for custom work if my style speaks to you, but my current designs don't! Just send me an e-mail and I'm happy to work something out for you!

Thank you so much for your support!
